Every artist is asking for an inspo pic, so here's the best way to go about finding one.
Tip #1 - Find your wedding day vibe
When you are booking your makeup and hair artist you should have already chosen your venue, date, and dress. This should help form the vibe and style you are going for. Examples are boho, elegant, whimsical, timeless, glamourous, etc. Knowing your vibe will help you choose images of similar looks. Or if there is a look you like but it isn't the vibe, you can explain to your artist what you like about it and they may be able to offer advice on how to tweak it to fit you better.
Tip #2 - Search for models that look like you
This one is vital - from face shape to skin color, to hair texture and more. You will be disappointed in your final look if the inspiration picture you chose is of a model that doesn't look similar to you.
Tip #3 - Review your artists' portfolio
The number one compliment for an artist (aside from referrals and reviews, hehe) are using their images as inspiration. Aside from stroking their ego, it is important that you can envision yourself in one of the looks your artist has previously done. This is the best way to have a successful appointment. If you cannot find a look you like on the portfolio of the artist you are using, they likely aren't the best match for you.
Tip #4 - Get specific
One inspiration picture isn't enough, unless you look like that person and love everything about it. But my guess is, even if you love a look there may be things you want to change. Maybe it's the lip color, maybe its the aggressiveness of the winged eyeliner. It is always best to break down your inspiration pictures piece by piece to create a look you love.
Tip #5 - Consider the elements
It's always important to consider where and when your wedding is. Are you having an August beach wedding? Not all looks are weather proof and your best defense against wind and humidity are updos. No matter how talented your artist is, glam waves will just not look the same after a ceremony on the beach.
Final Thoughts
Makeup and hair artists are not mind readers, the more specific you can be with examples the better we will understand what you want. If you are unhappy or do not like a part of your look, we really want to know. My goal as an artist is to make you feel happy, confident, and beautiful. I never want you to walk away silently unhappy!
